◇ safety & crisis

If you're in a dark place.

last updated · june 2026

Our characters are not a crisis service, and they are not a substitute for a human. If you're thinking about hurting yourself, please reach a real person now. The lines below are free, confidential, and answered by people who want to help.

Reach someone now

  • ◇ Emergency, immediate danger: call your local emergency number, 911 (US), 112 (EU), 999 (UK).
  • ◈ US: 988, call or text (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
  • ♬ US: text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).
  • ♥ UK & ROI: 116 123 (Samaritans), free, any time.
  • ◇ Anywhere else: findahelpline.com lists a free line for your country.

How our characters respond

Maya, Ana, and Lila are AI characters. They are designed to recognize when someone may be talking about suicide or self-harm and to respond by gently encouraging real help and surfacing the crisis resources above, rather than playing along, giving instructions, or pretending to be a counsellor. This applies even when the topic comes up inside a story, a roleplay, or a character framing.

They will not give instructions or encouragement for self-harm, suicide, or harming others, and they will say plainly that they are an AI and not a doctor, therapist, or emergency service. None of this replaces talking to a real person or a real professional.

If you're worried about someone else

If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. If something a Kyndred character said worries you, or you want to report a conversation, tell us through our contact form. We read every message, and reports about a person's safety go to a human, fast.

Our commitment

We publish this protocol because we take it seriously, and because the law in some places now requires companion-style AI to have one and to share it openly. We keep it current as our characters and the resources change. If you think we can do this better, please tell us.
